For that to happen it would take a lot more automation of factory work than seems feasible in the near future. But who knows. Machines keep getting smarter. Either way there are going to continue to be fewer and fewer factory jobs. And the jobs that require largely muscle work are going to pay less and less. Not a strategy for a mass middle class.

Do you foresee a time when manufacturing itself will become a knowledge based job, requiring maost factory workers to have post secondary education in technology or engineering etc?
