Culture is a big part of the state’s challenge. Probably more important than state and local economic development policy. Until more of us accept that what made us prosperous in the past won’t in the future, we are going to struggle. And this is particularly true for most Michigan kids, who to be economically successful are going to have to live in a different world that their parents. One that is far more knowledge based as well as far less stable.

We have not yet developed the culture where such families emphasize education for the kids.
