One point not stressed is how do we wish to fund local governments then? If you have a municipality that is home to a large plant, i.e., Wayne, Flat Rock, Livonia, Sterling Heights, and Dearborn, to automotive companies, a good share of their revenues is from PPT. Is it the responsibility of industry to pay for what local citizens want as far as services? No, however, we are back to how do we fund local governments. We need a complete over hall of the tax codes and limits that are there to prohibit increasing of a cities millage rates. If the corporate entity is a good citizen, they should have to pay their fare share of property taxes and locals should stop giving them tax credits, and abatements. Fine phase out the PPT, but also fix the rest of the tax structure, remove tax credits and tax abatements. Corporate America cannot have it both ways. They use city services, and should be good corporate citizens and pay their fare but full share of property taxes in a community.
