My personal experience is that it was difficult to land a good-paying job even with an undergraduate degree but it was easier once I got a masters. I have successful friends who never went to college. Instead, they each did an apprenticeship or learned a skilled trade and started businesses. They are good at what they do and are navigating the business world of management, bills, taxes, marketing, etc. with differing levels of trepidation. I often wonder about an effective way to encourage more entrepreneurship in our state and connect young Michiganders with worthwhile apprenticeship programs. We need more people to feel empowered to go perform work that they love as opposed to fearfully securing jobs that barely pay the bills.
